gifplayer 0.1.5 script description:

Publisher review:

Inspired by 9gag.com's GIF image controls, the gifplayer plugins allows users to start a GIF animation only when they're ready to see it.

Why is this important? Because by default a Web page loads all the images on a page when it gets accessed by a user. This means GIFs will start playing automatically, and if the user has a slower connection, they'll play at a slower, choppy speed, and sometimes the user won't even notice there's a GIF there in the first place.

gifplayer allows developers to replace the GIF with another static image (like BMP, JPG, PNG, etc.) and add an overlay GIF button on top of it.

When clicking the GIF button, the underlying image is replaced with the real GIF, and the animation starts.

Clicking the image again will stop the animation, and re-add the GIF button on top.

This way users will not be inundated with effects, movements, and other color shifts coming from a GIF, and they can keep focus on the page itself, reading the article, or interacting with other page elements.

gifplayer 0.1.5 is a script for Image Galleries scripts design by Ruben Torres. It runs on following operating system: Windows / Linux / Mac OS / BSD / Solaris.
